Good Day Brothers and Sisters,

I hope you all had a good summer!

On July 30, 2019, the OSBCU (Ontario School Board Council of Union) filed for conciliation with the Ministry of Labour. The OSBCU has filed for conciliation because the council of Trustees and the Ministry are asking for significant concessions related to wages, sick leave, benefits and job security. Through this process, the Ministry appoints a “conciliatory”. The OSBCU felt the need to have assistance of a conciliation to aid with negotiations.

The OSBCU, your Bargaining Committee, and Executives have been working diligently in preparation of a possible job action or strike in the upcoming weeks. It is important to remember, being in a legal strike position does not necessarily mean a full withdrawal of service. It can also take the form of a “Work to Rule”.

The best way to avoid a strike is to be prepared for one. CUPE 1483 and our Secretary union “CUPE2026”, has joined together in preparing a special meeting at the Canadian Convention Centre, 79 Bramsteele Road, Brampton, on Sunday September 8, 2019 at 9.30 a.m. sharp. All 1483 members are expected to be there.

More information will be given at this meeting.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone there.

In Solidarity,

Michael Gordon
President, CUPE 1483
